Target Audience For Music Magazine
The target audience for my music magazine "Whack" is mostly going to be teenagers and young adults aged from 14-25. The magazine will mainly appeal to males as they tend to listen to rap more than females with a ratio of 75:25. This is because of the content in the magazine and the types of tracks made from certain rap artists who are popular with younger age group such as Drake, Kanye west, Kendrick Lamar and other main stream artists. I think that it would appeal to this age group as it is a common stereotype that teenagers listen to rap/grime music. This age group tend to have hobbies such as going out with friends or doing sports. They also go to concerts that appeal to them, and generally just enjoy listening to rap music in their spare time. They dress in a very informal manner, usually wearing quite urban clothing.

Ideology for my music magazine
"Whack", the brand of my rap magazine, will focus on many aspects in the music industry. Although it will feature many established artists such as Jay z, Drake, Eminem and Logic to meet the demands of the audience, it will also focus on the less known rap/hiphop artists as I feel that this is very important. As G-Eazy said, " The dream of being discovered is dead", as there are many artists nowadays who aspire to make it big and our brand make it our mission to try and find great talent in the country. Also, the Magazine will focus on the actual raw ability of rappers such as the rhyme schemes they use, syllables a line, speed, and context as we feel that most listeners don't understand a lot about this and this Magazine would inform them about this side of hip hop and rap. It will also feature more serious issues about the established artists outside their music career as I feel that this would attract a lot more people as they would want to know what is going on in their lives.

Photography for Main Image
For my front cover I will be using James to pose as Eminem. He will be wearing a hoodie and sticking his hand out to the audience, so that the reader feels a part of it and engaged and will get a sense that Eminem is reaching out to them . I will be using a dark background and am not too bothered about the colour as long as the background doesn't have any patterns. I won't be taking it in the school environment as this is unrealistic and won't be effective. James will have to pose with a lot of confidence as this is an established and very popular artist.

Masthead Feedback
From the 10 people that I asked, 7 said that they preferred the 3rd one as they found the black and yellow colour scheme very vibrant and eye catching and they also liked the structure of the Masthead with "Whack" at the top and "Magazine" at the bottom. They also said that the font was very appropriate for the genre and that it would merge well with the other aspects of the front cover.
The other 3 people said the last one as they liked the simplicity of it and found the font very clever and unique.

Ideology of Vibe Magazine
Vibe Magazine was found by Quincy Jones and mostly focuses on R&B and hip hop artists. Quincy believes that rap music speaks out to people more than any other genre. The Vibe Magazine's are mostly aimed at the male audience because of the explicit content and because of how women are portrayed in certain songs. This is why the majority of artists on the front cover are males as they are a lot more popular in this music industry than women. Moving on, Vibe heavily feature established artists as they feel that by using popular artists the magazine would appeal more. Vibe do sometimes include growing artists in the articles in the magazine however they are never given the main spotlight as the audience wouldn't find the magazine appealing if the front cover featured an unknown artist. This is why Vibe highly promote established artists and use them to attract attention to their magazine. Also, although Vibe use the same masthead each time, the colour scheme is different on most of them and they usually use very bright colours or colours that contrast well with the background as we can see in the image above. Most of the shots that Vibe use for their front covers are close up shots as the audience can then easily identify the artist and can see their facial expressions a lot easier.

Music Magazine Ideas
The genre I have chosen to do is Rap. This is because that I am quite knowledgable in this industry and have a very strong passion for the art, so I think that the work I will produce will be of a very high quality. I will be including R&B artists as well as grime artists as well as I fell that this will increase the chance of it appealing to people, and the target audience range would enlarge therefore making the magazine a lot more popular.

Photo planning for school magazine
For the school magazine, I will be taking a over the shoulder shot of a fellow student whilst they are working on a computer in the library. I fell that this would be good as the main article within the magazine will be about revision so having a student working on the front cover would be appropriate. However, I may also use a medium close up shot as I feel that this would engage the audience more.

Target audience for my School Magazine
The target audience for my school magazine is going to be students from year 10 - year 13 from Plantsbrook school as I feel that most of the content going in my magazine will be more applicable and helpful to them where as as lower years won't find the content appealing as it isn't important and informative to them. This is because I will be covering topics such as gcse and A level revision and other revision material. However, certain issues of the magazine could appeal to the younger audience such as charity events or other events that take place in the school

The rule of thirds is a well-known
rule in photographic composition.
As you’re taking
an image you would have done this in your mind through your viewfinder or in
the LCD display that you use to frame your shot.
With this grid
in mind the ‘rule of thirds’ now identifies four important parts of the image
that you should consider placing points of interest in as you frame your image.
Not only this –
but it also gives you four ‘lines’ that are also useful positions for elements
in your photo.

Analysis of my Mastheads
With this Masthead I have decided to go for a Sans Serif form as I felt
that Serif wasn’t as appealing and eye catching. Also, I have used the
Plantsbrook colour scheme which is black and red as I know that the audience
are familiar with this and it would make sense to use these colours. I have
then placed a white outline around the “plantsbrook” part of the logo as the
black and white contrast, and a light blue around the “mag” part because I felt
it would look appealing.
This was another Masthead draft
which I created. In this I used a sans serif form however made it less
professional intentionally as I felt that the magazine could target the
students over the parents, and this sort of font would appeal to the younger
age range. The middle part of the logo is a vibrant red as I thought this would
be very eye catching compared to the black and grey behind it which are very
dull colours.
This is the final Masthead I used. I felt that this was
ideal for the magazine as it isn’t too complex but is still effective in being
a catchy logo. The background is white/blank and the actual text is sans serif
and each individual letter is very large and bold. I have used the colours
black, red and white as they are the Plantsbrook colour scheme and the black
and white contrast so it’s a good combination to use. Overall, It is a very
vibrant and bold and the font is very appealing so I thought that this was the
ideal Masthead for my type of Magazine.

Masthead Research and Analysis
This is the Masthead/logo for NME which is placed at the top of every Magazine they release. It is using a Sans-Serif form, which makes it more informal, modern, bold and sharp. Also, another technique used to make the logo stand out more is the contrasting colours. The bright red with the contrasting black stroke behind the white really helps make the Logo appeal more and catch the readers eye. The Masthead isn't too complicated either which makes it more simple and sharp.
Moving on, the Masthead for Rolling Stone is quite funky and unlike the previous two, uses a Serif form, as certain letters curl at the bottom and others have hooks. This may illustrate what the Magazines tend to be about, as the logo doesn't suggest any particular genre of Music and from research I know that Rolling Stone do mix it up and don't just focus on one type of music. The logo mainly consists of the colour red which is very eye catching, followed by a thin white outline and a black border, once again, two contrasting colours.
Lastly, I have picked the Vibe masthead. Vibe also like \rolling Stone doesn't focus on one particular type of music, however normally feature modern artists which is why I think the logo has a Sans-Serif form. It's Bold and sharp, and the black and white really make it catchy, the audience instantly see it.
