Ideology of Vibe Magazine

Vibe Magazine was found by Quincy Jones and mostly focuses on R&B and hip hop artists. Quincy believes that rap music speaks out to people more than any other genre. The Vibe Magazine's are mostly aimed at the male audience because of the explicit content and because of how women are portrayed in certain songs. This is why the majority of artists on the front cover are males as they are a lot more popular in this music industry than women. Moving on, Vibe heavily feature established artists as they feel that by using popular artists the magazine would appeal more. Vibe do sometimes include growing artists in the articles in the magazine however they are never given the main spotlight as the audience wouldn't find the magazine appealing if the front cover featured an unknown artist. This is why Vibe highly promote established artists and use them to attract attention to their magazine. Also, although Vibe use the same masthead each time, the colour scheme is different on most of them and they usually use very bright colours or colours that contrast well with the background as we can see in the image above. Most of the shots that Vibe use for their front covers are close up shots as the audience can then easily identify the artist and can see their facial expressions a lot easier.
